Win Over BYU a Big Step for Arizona
It's easy to overlook a consequential result when so many exciting games happened in D1A over the weekend, but it's important not to miss that Arizona beat BYU 32-22.
Arizona has been taking steps to show their improvement, but those steps were somewhat obscured by the fact they lost those games.
Almost an Upset; Cal Poly Pushes Saint Mary's in Moraga
Cal Poly pushed Saint Mary's in a rather surprising meeting of the top two teams in the California D1A Conference, but the Gaels held on 43-38.
The game started well for the Gaels. They moved into Cal Poly territory and spun it wide to freshman Aisake Tukuafu, who sped in to touch down. Ollie Cline slotted the extras and it was 7-0.
Thriller LA as Wildcats Edge Bruins
In one of the more evenly-matched high-scoring games in D1A, Central Washington pulled out a dramatic 47-41 win over UCLA Saturday in Southern California.
It's common to say a game was back-and-forth, but this one really was. Teams would answer try-for-try, both got into penalty trouble, and there was plenty of emotion, too.

Every team in the California D1A has now won a game.
At the beginning of the season the inside info on the teams was that two rebuilding teams—Cal State Long Beach and San Diego State—would struggle. And they did, at first. But over the weeks these teams were the most likely to improve markedly, too.
