Top HS clubs from around the USA converged on Hendersonville, Tenn. just outside Nashville for the Friendship Cup and it delivered.

Ranked teams from Tennessee, North Carolina, Texas, Indiana, and Utah all competed.

The marquee matchup was almost certainly the Charlotte Cardinals vs Cavemen early on Saturday. While these were all shortened matches of 45 minutes (in total), this was still #1 vs #2.

The game itself featured ground-shaking collisions from both sides. Cavemen looked to use their imposing front row to dominate the gainline.

Meanhwile the Cardinals started going into the wind, and while they wanted to use their kicking game, now wasn’t the time. But it was a long break from fullback Max Colson and smart support that saw scrumhalf Andrew Kuhn score.
Cavemen needed to kick and in fact one of the few times they did they got points out of it. Charlotte misplayed the kick, the Cavemen forwards swarmed in, and after a penalty they tapped and were over to tie it up 7-7.

Another long run from Colson set up a second try. While the fullback kept looking for someone to pass to his coaches were just urging him to run. Charlotte eventually got a penalty, opted for the scrum, and powered through the middle to score under the posts.

In the second half Charlotte was able to dominate field position with their kicking game, and they iced it with lock Lukas Lupinski thundering through—the second row has been a breakout star for both Charlotte Catholic and now the Cardinals.

Final score: Charlotte Cardinals 28 Cavemen 7

It was a tough loss to take for the Cavemen, but they had already had to battle for a tough 22-17 win over Pendleton the day before. In that match, the blazing speed of wing Aiseah Hafoka was on full display, and the halfback combo of Liam Ewer and Luke Vernon impressed.
No. 8 Eli Poore and wing Elijah Pimental impressed for Pendleton, who had one try disallowed for obstruction.

On Day Two there was plenty of drama in the Charlotte Tigers-vs-Woodlands game. With time almost up the Tigers trailed 10-5. Led by some excellent work from No. 8 Brody Evans, the Tigers were eventually able to get it over. The conversion from freshman Vaylin Kellerman near the touchline snaked over the bar, and the Tigers had a dramatic 12-10 victory.

The Tigers then were on the other end of such things against the Raptors. The Tennesseeans had some prime scoring chances but could not convert on their lineout.
Finally the Raptors broke through with a run on the outside from wing Ty Lavender. The Tigers responded and it was 7-7 with time winding down. But Raptor responded with a long-range movement that included Jake Orefice and Emmett Sutton, along with flanker Jake Roberts always involved.
That produced the game-winner 14-7 for Raptor.

The South Carolina Barbarians came in with e new-look side and plenty of talent. Twins Harrison and Arden Redmond provided a one-two punch of athleticism and rugby nous that produced some impressive plays, including a 105-meter movement for a try that was risky, but paid off.

As the weekend wore on the fatigue started to set in. For most boys teams it was 180 minutes of rugby during the period of two or three days—a good test for the national championship, which several of these clubs will be attending.

Cardinals won all four of their matches,

Woodlands beat Raptors 8-5 for yet another nailbiter (Tigers 12 Woodlands 10, Raptors 14 Tigers 7, Woodlands 8 Raptors 5), and were within a try against Cavemen.
