Well they do say that this third time is the charm.
Bowling Green and Louisville met twice this season, and the Cardinals had won both times.
But here in the NCR D1AA semifinals, BGSU got the best of UofL.
Bowling Green's success came from the scrum, as the Falcons were able to controll scrum time and that led to them leading in time of possession.
Louisville scored by taking advantage of every Bowling Green error. The Cardinals took a 7-0 lead, but a penalty goal from Joey Apel and a well-taken try from big lock Zach Szepiela saw Bowling Green ahead 8-7 at halftime.
Bowling Green No. 8 Evan Holdererd scored right off the second half kickoff. Apel added another penalty goal for a 16-7 lead. However Louisville responded, blocking a kick and taking that into in-goal to make iy 16-14.
Bowling Green scored off a close-in lineout and that made it 21-14. Louisville pressured BGSU, saw their opposition get two yellow cards and the Cardinals took advantage, scoring their third try and, with the conversion, we were all tied up at 21-21.
And now were in overtime. Sudden Death Overtime.
Louisville could not launch anyhing useful off the overtime kickoff, and Bowling Green flanker Harvey Harris swooped in to grab the loose ball. Louisville defenders raced to stop him but Harris dragged three players over the line to score.
Bowling Green won 26-21.
