In what was a surprisingly close match, BYU scored at the end of the game to edge Grand Canyon 29-26 Saturday in Phoenix.
This was a much improved showing for GCU and they were in position to win the game.
"It was a heartbreaking result," said Grand Canyon Head Coach Sean O'Leary. "But our response to a lackluster performance against Saint Mary's showed the players the intensity needed at this level, and the fact that they can play it this level."

O'Leary praised his team's energy, passion, teamwork, and discpline.
"So very, very proud," he added. "This is the best performance, by far, since I've been here."
Several starters against Saint Mary's were on the sideline against Arizona State last week and that perhaps lit a fite under them.
GCU No. 8 Vince McKeffery soared in for a try at 79 minutes to put Grand Canyon ahead only for Ryan Larsen to score for BYU to win the game moments later.
