GRR: Big 10 Conference
In writing about the Chesapeake Conference, where there seemed to be an inordinate number of close games, we decided to see if our impressions were correct.
So we looked at the stats in Men's DI College rugby. We looked at which conferences had the most close losses (7 points or less) and also who had the most, what we'll call "competitive losses," which means losses of 14 or less.
Wisconsin defeated Ohio State 19-15 to join Indiana as the only undefeated teams in the Big Ten, but it might not be enough to see the Badgers in the top two.
Time to separate the contenders from the pretenders in the Big Ten, as most of the top half teams in the conference play each other.
A quick glance at the stats shows that Indiana has dominated, clearly. They've dominated so much that even without their captain and best player, Bryce Campbell, they are heavily favored against Michigan.
It's been a season of lopsided victories so far in the Big Ten, and certainly it looks as though there's a group of strong teams, and a group of not-so-strong teams, and possibly two trying to jump from one to the other.
The Big Ten doesn’t get going for two weeks but several of the teams in the conference saw action this weekend.
Ohio State slammed Cincinnati 59-5 Friday, with Jojo Eramo featured heavily in the scoresheet as did captain Aaron Thomas - both scored three tries. The Buckeyes looked good against a tough Cincinnati team.
