Texas A&M defeated Sam Houston State 34-24 to win the Lonestar Conference, but both of those teams are already in the NCR playoffs.
The victory for Texas A&M, however, ensured them a week off before the quarterfinals on November 22.
A&M Head Coach Tui Osborne said it was an ugly win, but points to the old saw that a good team can pull out. win when it doesn't play particularly well.
The Aggies, said Osborne, committed too many penalties and were too inconsistent with their kicking game.
"But we did manage the game better than Sam Houston did," said the coach. "But the penalties is something we're going to have to work on. That and playing well on the road."
Osborne said overall his team is playing with more confidence, and he feels they can compete at the D1AA playoff level.
"We're in the conversation, but the way you win it all is to win training every week," Osborne said.
Leading the way for the Aggies was Joey Garcia, who leads by example, puts in a ton of work, and carries hard.
So that's two teams in: Texas A&M to the Quarterfinals and Sam Houston State to the play-ins.
