The California Collegiate Conference is a regional collegiate rugby conference affiliated with the College Rugby Association of America (CRAA) that operates two levels, D1A and D1AA.

The league realignment in 2022-23 marked its expansion and formal establishment of the two divisions, with plans for promotion and relegation between the levels going forward.

For the 2025-26 season California Conference has added University of San Diego and UCLA to their D1A level.

SD State Downs Cal Poly

San Diego State dispatched Cal Poly 32-18 Saturday in a game between two California Conference rivals that wasn’t an actual conference game.

The longtime rivals like to play each other twice, so this game serves as a conference warmup, and the second clash will be the conference game.

California Conference Big Finish

The California Conference and the list of which teams will make the DIA playoffs are both decided this weekend as St. Mary’s faces Santa Clara and Cal Poly takes on San Diego State.

St. Mary’s should beat Santa Clara and will then finish conference play 4-0. Really they don’t even need to win to clinch the conference, but the victory is what the Gaels are shooting for.

Aztecs Looking Up

The California Conference may well be all wrapped up for the St. Mary’s Gaels, but 2nd place isn’t a bad place to be, and San Diego State might well end up there.

After winning a wild one 59-44 over Santa Clara, the Aztecs are now 2-1 and only have their April 12 clash with Cal Poly left on the docket (Cal Poly is 1-1 and plays 0-2 UC Santa Barbara this Friday).
