The Southern Rugby Conference is a college rugby league made up primarily of teams from the Carolinas and Virginia, competing across multiple tiers including Division I and Division I-AA. It participates under the auspices of National Collegiate Rugby (NCR), with its member institutions contesting both league play and national qualification. The conference structure accommodates a mix of large university club programs and smaller colleges, indicating a spectrum of competitive levels rather than a single monolithic division.

Since being established in 2011, the Southern Rugby Conference has consistently produced nationally-ranked programs (Top 25 in the nation). UNC-W and Furman University have both participated in the 15's Sweet 16 since joining the conference. The Citadel won the 2016 SRC 7s Championship to join the elite teams in the DII National 7s Tournament accompanied by UNC-W who were our conference runner-ups in 7's and 15's Champions.

Coastal Carolina, UNCW Lead Southern Conference

One week in and already things are shaken up in the Southern Rugby Conference in men’s DII college competition.

GRR’s #4 team from last year, Furman, went down to Coastal Carolina 29-8 Saturday in something of an upset and a nice birthday present for Coastal’s coach, Tom Barnett.

Furman Looks for Strong Start as Southern Kicks Off

The Southern Rugby Conference begins with ten teams in action this weekend.

Defending champion Furman hosts Coastal Carolina and Head Coach John Roberts says his team needs to fill in some important holes. Furman graduated their 2014 second row, and their props, Adrian Marcoliese and Jeff Tonge, are studying abroad this semester, and so his tight five is completely new.
