BC Wins ACRL 7s
Boston College won the ACRL 7s, overcoming an impressive field of college teams.
The ACRL features college rugby teams from schools that are part of the ACC. While the 15s ACRL won't be competing anymore, the 7s tournament certainly seems to have legs, with BC, Maryland, Clemson, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Virginia, and NC State in action.
Boston College finished undefeated in first place after beating Clemson twice, Virginia Tech once, and Maryland in the Championship game, 21-17.
"It was a big win for us, and it gives us a lot of confidence moving forward," said BC captain Danny Schatzman. "Both days were battles against some very good teams, but we did a really good job of sticking to our game plan and using our speed and conditioning to outlast teams."
BC was usually in control of their games, but fell behind against Maryland.
"We showed resilience," said Schatzman. "Tom Edwards, who was battling an Achilles injury all weekend stole a key line out in the final minutes and we were able to dot it down and get the win."
The Eagles have added Duncan Wood and Dylan Pritchard to the squad alongside the experience group that won an ACRC Bowl Game in the fall. Both have been useful additions.
"Duncan ran hard and made some great tackles while Dylan was a huge asset in our kickoffs and conversions while making some big plays as well," said Schatzman. "In only our second major tournament of the 7s season, I think we made some big improvements from just a week ago at the Armory 7s. We're starting to come together as a team and were excited to keep the momentum rolling into California for the Jesuit Cup and then CRCs in June."
The Jesuit Cup is a 7s tournament this coming weekend at Santa Clara University and will include BC, Santa Clara, Loyola Marymount, Gonzaga, St. Joseph's, and University of Notre Dame.
