Potomac Union Runs Youth Clinic
The Potomac Rugby Union Youth League end of the season took place this past weekend in Columbia, Maryland. 57 youth teams sent sevens teams to compete in U7, U9, U11, and U13 brackets through the two day weekend. There were also U15 demonstration tackle games for boys and girls that took place on Sunday morning.
All in all, approximately 1000 youth rugby players were able to run, pass, catch and have fun in beautiful sunny conditions.
After the U13 championship game on Sunday, it was time for the high school rugby players to get their opportunity to shine.

Solid Showing For Utah Lions In Paris
The Utah Lions U16 team took 3rd at the Paris World Games in June.
The Lions ended pool play 3-1 with defeats over local team CD41 (21-5), AAS Sarcelles (57-0), and Sri Lanka (51-0), while losing 29-0 to French Academy Paris SUD.
That put Utah second in the pool and set the Lions up for a game against Singapore. That was a tough game, as Singapore led 19-12 going into the final moments. Utah had a chance to tie it with a ry under the posts but lost the ball with no time left.
That was a heartbreaker for the team, but the Lions rebounded to beat Paris Univeriste Club (who had lost in the semis to Paris SUD 19-17 in controversial fashion). The Lions, eager to return home with a victory at the end of the weekend, slammed PUC 45-12.
Danville Tour Set Tone For National Title Run
The Danville Oaks won the Boys HS Rugby National Championships HS club championship, and it might just be that a trip to England and Wales helped make it happen.
The Oaks toured Ireland with Irish Rugby Tours during the spring, and the trip sowed the seeds for a national title, and possible more in the future.
"The tour was a great mix between high level rugby and immersing the team in some fun and culture during Spring Break," said head coach David Liebowitz. "Our goal for the Oaks' first international tour was to bond together as a team, playing three games in three cities, with the competition progressively getting harder."

BC High Wins MIAA Final
For the fourth straight year, Boston College High School won the Massachusetts Division 1 Boys title. This time, BC High faced an undefeated Belmont High School that soundly defeated the Eagles in April.
The match began with both teams playing the territory game and attacking physically at the line of defense. Much of the first 15 minutes was spent in the middle of the field, but after a few minutes of sustained attack BC High earned a penalty at Belmont’s 22. The ensuing catch and maul drove the ball deep into Belmont territory, and the backs moved the ball wide to wing Michael Bennett who touched down in the corner. Rob Lester converted the try.

Connecticut Boys All-Stars Turn Heads
The HS All_Star season finishes up this weekend, but already we have a good idea of which teams have been especially strong.
And perhaps the one team to turn heads has been Connecticut. The Rugby CT team blew through the Northeast RCT with a 4-0 record. Drawing from players mostly from Greenwich, Aspetuck, and Staples, the Connecticut team outscored four opponents 161-24, with two shutouts in Boys Tier 1 play:
Connecticut 26 DC 0
Connecticut 52 Rugby PA 12
Connecticut 43 New York 12
Connecticut 40 New Jersey 0
Led by the halfback combination of Lorenzi Villani and Sebastiano Villani, and with Ben Van Der Merwe and Jacob Rob playing especially well in the backs, Connecticut also got big performances from prop/flanker Ray Weiner, and HS All American lock Charlie Overton.
