Empire Rugby Conference

The Empire Rugby Conference is a rugby union organization that governs men's and women's rugby clubs in New York State, Northern New Jersey, and Connecticut. Also known as the Empire Geographical Union (Empire GU), it was established in 2012 following the merger of the Northeast, New York State Rugby Conference, and Metropolitan New York RFU.

The organization manages competitions for both senior and collegiate teams. Some of the teams that have competed in the conference include Binghamton, Stony Brook, and Kings Point. Many of the collegiate teams previously in the Empire Rugby Conference have since moved to the Liberty Rugby Conference.

Stony Brook Takes 1st in Empire

Stony Brook won the clash of undefeated teams in the Empire Rugby Conference as they defeated Kings Point 30-12 Friday evening.

Stony Brook started well in the early going and led 10-0 before Kings Point scored to make it 10-7. But Stony Brook pulled away with two tries to make it 17-7.

Kings Point, Stony Brook Dominate in Empire

Stony Brook and Kings Point are on a collision course as both won big this weekend in Empire Conference play.

Led by two tries from Josh Raines and tries from Tim Llull and Steve McQuire, Kings Point shut out Syracuse 24-0. It was a very rainy and wet day through much of the Northeast, which kept some scores low.

Stony Brook Revving Up

After an impressive 70-12 defeat of Binghamton Saturday, Stony Brook University stands at 3-0 in the Empire Conference, just behind Kings Point thanks to bonus points.

The two teams will face off October 11, but first Stony Brook will have to get through Brockport, and Kings Point faces Syracuse.

The US Merchant Marine Academy has some unfinished business, and judging by their start to the season, they are ready to take care of it right now.

Last year, the USMMA at Kings Point rugby team started league play 4-1, but then the government shutdown forced them to forfeit three games in a row.

Empire Conference Latest

The US Merchant Marine Academy started well in the Empire Conference with a 31-15 defeat of SUNY Brockport in Brockport.

Dan Ardis scored two tries for Kings Point and John Wesley and Leroid Jones added tries while Wesley kicked three conversions and a penalty for a personal hail of 14. The Mariners move to 1-0 in the conference.
