The Empire Rugby Conference is a rugby union organization that governs men's and women's rugby clubs in New York State, Northern New Jersey, and Connecticut. Also known as the Empire Geographical Union (Empire GU), it was established in 2012 following the merger of the Northeast, New York State Rugby Conference, and Metropolitan New York RFU.

The organization manages competitions for both senior and collegiate teams. Some of the teams that have competed in the conference include Binghamton, Stony Brook, and Kings Point. Many of the collegiate teams previously in the Empire Rugby Conference have since moved to the Liberty Rugby Conference.

Colgate Downs Syracuse as Empire Tightens Further

The Empire Conference continues to be a wild one, as Colgate beat Syracuse to bunch everyone up again.

Syracuse came into this weekend's clash having beaten Stony Brook on the road and moved into 1st. Colgate, for their part, had started with an impressive win and then were shut out by Fordham and lost to Binghamton, as well. And yet, Colgate handed Syracuse a 39-10 defeat.

Fordham Over Colgate

Fordham handed Colgate a relatively surprising 29-0 shutout defeat Friday evening in the Empire Conference.

Colgate had come into the game feeling pretty good after an opening week win over Brockport. But they couldn't get their offense going against a tough Fordham defense.

Wild Game Starts Season for Colgate

Among a trio of close games in the Empire Conference this past weekend, Colgate's clash with SUNY Brockport was the wildest, producing 93 points in a 57-36 barnburner.

For Colgate, which finished a solid 4-2 in the conference last season, it was a worthwhile start.
