GRR: Rugby Ohio
Top-ranked school team St. Ignatius played their first home game of the season at their ground in Cleveland, Ohio, and put #24 Moeller to the sword in emphatic fashion Saturday.
Word is that overall Boys HS rugby in Ohio is getting more competitive.
While it seems like St. Ignatius is a level above, St. Edward, Moeller, St. Xavier, and some of the clubs (potentially) raising their level as well.
Girls HS Rugby has been delayed a bit in some areas as the ripples of the COVID pandemic have made it slow going in recharging some teams and leagues.
But we are in action and here’s a look at some of what’s been going on.
ViennaThe Vienna girls faced off with Aspetuck last week in a warmup for Aspetuck’s entry into the new EGRL multi-state league.
St Edward defeated Walsh Jesuit by a wide margin in a midweek Rugby Ohio clash at St Ed's Lakewood campus.
St. Edward beat St. Ignatius on the final play of the game to take the Rugby Ohio Boys Fall 7s, and St. Ed's made it a double, winning the Shield competition, as well.
Rugby Ohio used the regular season to stratify the competitions, with one set of teams playing for the Cup, and a second tier playing for the Shield in the final tournament.
