Moeller Tournament Kick Starts Midwest HS Teams
Archbishop Moeller HS in Ohio is hosting a season warmup tournament for the second year in a row and with rugby being so rare for the last 12 months it's a welcome opener for teams from three states.
The event resembles the old Ohio-Indiana Challenge that opened many a high school season. In fact, former Moeller coach Doug Rosfeld ran the Ohio-Indiana Challenge and this is current Moeller Head Coach Steve Kaufman working to emulate that but with teams from Cincinnati and Dayton mixing with teams from out of the region.

This year he has succeeded quite nicely. Along with Moeller, Walnut Hills, Withrow, St. Charles, and St. Xavier of Cincinnati, Indiana-based programs Bishop Dwenger, Carroll Chargers, and Carmel.
"My goal for the tournament is to get six Cincinnati/Dayton teams to play six teams that we typically don't play," said Kaufman. "It's a tournament to knock the dust off the cleats and get early experience for new players."
Each team will play two matches with each match lasting 44 minutes. Each out-of-state team will play two Cincinnati teams.
More teams might have been able to pitch-up, but COVID restrictions have hurt recruiting so it will take a while for some of those teams to get their numbers up.
