NACRA 7s Schedule Set

The schedule for the North American Caribbean Rugby Association (NACRA) 7s championships in Cary, NC has been released.

The men’s and women’s tournaments both will send the winner to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The tournament runs June 13-14 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, NC. The games will be streamed live on http://usarugbytv.com/, and Goff Rugby Report Editor Alex Goff will be part of the broadcast team.

Canada will not participate in the women’s competition, because the Canadians already earned Olympic qualification by finishing in the top four in the World Rugby Women’s World Series. The USA lost out on a top four spot in the final game, a 15-14 loss to England.

The USA Women join Cayman Islands, Jamaica, and Barbados in Pool A. Meanwhile, Pool B consists of Mexico, Trinidad & Tobago, Bahamas, and Guyana.

For the men, the USA and Canada, longtime rivals, will be favorites to compete for the coveted Olympic spot. The USA is in Pool A with Mexico, Barbados, Jamaica, and St. Vincent. In Pool B Canada faces Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago, Cayman Islands, and the Bahamas.

The team that finishes second in each of these tournaments has another shot at Olympic glory, in a repechage tournament to be held later this year.
