Former SE Polk HS star Deion Mikesell, the top player in Iowa's 7s season last year, will start at wing for the USA U20s Saturday evening in Austin against Canada.

For the current Lindenwood freshman it's been a bit of a whirlwind, from playing in Iowa, to making the Eagle Impact Rugby Academy 7s team, to moving to 15s at Lindenwood, to making the Junior All Americans.

"There's a lot of adjustments [for 15s]," Mikesell told Goff Rugby Report. "It's a lot more physical ... but so far so good. I've been picking it up pretty quickly so I can't complain."

Mikesell is a strong, fast, and athletic wing and will start at left wing for the USA U20s Saturday. He said he has adapted to the less space in 15s, but being on a national team is a bit of a shocker for him.

"I am very humble and blessed that I got the opportunity," he told GRR. "At first I didn't think I was ready ... but I just take it day-by-day."
