Coming into this past weekend's RugbyPA Round 4, the top four teams had lost exactly one game, which, if you're paying attention, means that three were undefeated.

That number of undefeated is now down to one, as Doylestown came through the weekend 4-0, beating LaSalle and Elizabethtown, who both game into the fourth tournament 8-0.

They also beat Greenwich, which is in Connecticut, and doesn't figure in the standings, but plays in PA anyway.

"It was awesome to play good competition and do well," said Head Coach Kevin Reilly, who then added a caveat. "We don't have a lot of depth because the strong majority of our guys play football in the fall.  The football guys are all doing really well and leading their school teams to the playoffs.  But we are currently healthy, and I know that is not the case for LaSalle, Etown, and Berks who were all missing one or more key contributors."

Doylestown's starting seven of Chris Imperato, Brady Flynn, Jake Freestone, Griffin Glock, Jackson Reilly, Bennett Glock, and Jack Sugalski, with AJ Kelhart and Seamus Haney off the bench, has been consistent, and that's key.

"We haven't been at full strength at one tournament this season," said Berks Head Coach Greg Stelluti, whose team was the 8-1 side coming into the weekend. "We had a player at Chula Vista, we had injuries, vacations, illness. It was two or three guys missing each time."

Even so, Berks also went 4-0 on the weekend, to make 2nd-4th a tight-knit group. They did it partly with a comeback win over Downingtown, scoring three tries in the second half to turn a 14-0 deficit into a 15-14 victory.

"With those issues the only thing we can focus on is our set piece and our structure," said Stelluti. "We talk about how we don't care about the score ... yet ... let's get our plays and our timing down. This week we did well but we still have a lot to work on."

The halfback combination of Grant Croce and Liam McGettigan has been strong for Berks and they work very well together.

LaSalle has seen leadership and solid play from Jimmy Heffernan, Charlie Hope, Sean Lynch, and Henry Wallace.

"We’re fortunate to have a deep bench with a talent pool of players who could be starters on any roster around the league," added 15s head Coach Jessica Nedzwecky, who assists 7s Head Coach Matt Derrick. "So far, our defense, our depth, and our experience have really helped to move us forward this season. Most of our team has been playing together for years at this point which has allowed us to start strong. But, as always, there are many skilled teams in RugbyPA, so who knows what can happen at any tournament."

The state final is a two-day tournament on November 7 and 8. Doylestown has to be favored, especially after they shut out LaSalle 26-0.

Sophomore Doylestown scrumhalf Griffin Glock stepped up and played well and showed a nice burst of speed both in attack and making key cover tackles.

"I am most pleased with our defense," said Reilly. "All of our guys are tough and committed and make their tackles which keeps the opposition's scoreline down. We are playing unselfish and moving the ball into space nicely.  But sharing the ball and making the extra pass is something we can always improve upon.  We definitely need to improve our fitness and stay healthy."

Staying healthy and keeping the team together is what will see any of these teams through to a state title.

"We have to bring our best game every tournament," said LaSalle's Nedzwecky.
