St. Augustine wins 2026 NJ final.
Five straight state titles for St. Augustine.
Author: Alex Goff

The St. Augustine Hermits put together a very good performance to win the Rugby New Jersey Gold Division final over Christian Brothers.

St Augustine took an early lead in the game with a try from senior fullback Dom Maurice in the first 5 minutes. The Hermits kept it up and scored twice more to take a 19-0 lead.

But a yellow card to Maurice set up a chance for Christian Brothers Academy to make some inroads.

Two tries from CBA inched them close, but St. Augustine got one over just before the halftime break to lead 24-12 after the first half.

With the game only being separated by two scores with 35 mins left in the game, nothing was for certain.

St. Augustine looked to start the second half the way they had started the first. And that's exactly what they did, piecing together some good offensive sequences and after 15 minutes they had scored three tries and led 43-20.

CBA game close to scoring on a chip-and-chase, but senior scrumhalf Landon Davis won the race to the ball to save a try. However, from the goalline dropout, the ball went straight to CBA senior captain Fionn Moroney, who beautifully slotted a drop goal through the uprights from 35 meters out.

This let St. Augustine know that it wasn't going to be over yet, and two tres late made it 57-23 before CBA scored on yet another chip-and-chase to finish the scoring at 57-30.

Rocco Balestriere was player of the game as St. Augustine won their fifth straight state title.

In the Blue Division, Washington Township took on Bergen Catholic with Bergen Catholic taking the final. Washington Township had won the regular-season meeting between the two teams, but it was a different story in the final.

The Crusaders won their second championship in three years with a 28-22 defeat of Washington Township.
