Boys HS Games Feb 1-4

Lots of rugby to be played in Boys HS action this weekend.

In Southern California, Mira Costa and St. John Bosco have basically wrapped up playoff spots in the Varsity Red Los Angeles division. They play in a week to decide who is #1 and who is #2. It's not exactly the same situation in the San Diego division, as three teams - La Costa Canyon, Torrey Pines, and St. Augustine are in the hunt for the two playoff positions. LCC plays St. Augustine this weekend, and if St. Augustine wins, then it's a mad dash to figure it all out a week later. Torrey Pines, currently 3-0 (as is LCC) has a tough game against Cathedral this weekend, and then faces LCC. Any of the three teams could end up on top, or third.

In SoCal Varsity White, there's a controversy brewing over Carlsbad, undefeated on the field, getting two forfeits pinged on them for getting late waivers for two players. More on that later. But with Carlsbad getting two losses and a points penalty to boot, San Pasqual is now in control in the San Diego North, with Fallbrook and San Marcos chasing for the other playoff spot. 

In Varsity White Los Angeles, Wilson HS and Santiago are both 4-0 and will play each other this weekend. This is a clear winner is 1st, and the loser is 2nd. Los Alamitos won a forfeit win over San Juan midweek and now is 2-0. Los Al now faces Tritons in a game to decide who is tops in Orange County.

And in San Diego South, University City has 1st wrapped up, so it's a fight between Mira Mesa and La Jolla for 2nd. La Jolla beat Mira Mesa midweek, but Mira Mesa has a lead over La Jolla thanks to bonus points, and should hold on.

North Carolina starts up, with the Chapel Hill Highlanders taking on Clayton Copperheads in club action. Charlotte Catholic has moved to the club league for tougher games, but remains a single-school team; they take on Cape Fear. There's a full slate of school teams as well.

Rugby Texas also has a full slate of games, with St. Thomas v Cy-Fair being an exciting matchup, and Lake Travis hosting Rock Rugby in another good one. Katy at Woodlands is a meeting of two teams who have already beaten the defending state champs. 

Week two of South Carolina is set and Wando v Irmo should be the game to watch, but it will also be interesting to see if Greenville HS can keep the magic going. South Carolina HS League Heats Up 

Florida is still working its way through a bit of a mixed-bag season. Louisiana finds out a lot when St. Paul's plays at Jesuit-New Orleans.

And finally in Northern California, the Premier League starts but maybe the game to watch is Peninsula Green (ranked #7 by GRR) and Danville (ranked #1).
