Out-of-Division Action for D1A Teams
Cal Poly defeated Trinity Western 44-36 in the first game of the Spartans' trip to Southern California.
For Trinity Western this was another good test and they will play UCSC in a couple of days. For Cal Poly, this was another improved performance.
Head Coach Chris O'Brien said his team has been working on its defensive structure, and that is beginning to show.
Wild One in Tucson as Wildcats Push Bears
In a surprise scoreline that was almost a shocker result, Cal held on to defeat Arizona 57-51 in Tucson.
Sitton Field is often a tough place to play for road teams and it certainly was for the Cal Bears Saturday, and they weren't helped by getitng into repeated penalty trouble, that ultimately led to several Arizona tries.
Midwest and East Coast Get Going in D1A
You kind of feel like there’s something heating up as more teams outside of California get active.
The notable game outside of the West is most certainly Lindenwood traveling to Jonesboro, Ark. to face Arkansas State.
They don’t ease into it, do they?
GCU Upset, Cal, and Saint Mary's in Big Wins This Weekend
Major D1A action included some out-of-division special events this weekend, but maybe it was the all-D1A game that was the biggest.
Cal vs UBC
Cal defeated longtime Canadian rivals University of British Columbia 38-7 in Vancouver. Cal opened the scoring in a fairly methodical way, pressuring off the kickoff and working the forwards in close.
