Universal to Televise Women's World Cup Games
In an announcement released July 24, Universal Sports Network stated they would be showing 15 hours of LIVE TV coverage of the IRB Women’s Rugby World Cup 2014 in Paris, France, from Friday, August 1 through Sunday, August 17.
In addition, matches will also be streamed LIVE online at universalsports.com to authenticated users.
The world’s top twelve women’s rugby teams will contest the trophy during the tournament, which sees New Zealand returning as defending champions. The pool stages take place in Marcoussis on August 1, 5 and 9 with the semi-finals on August 13. The final takes place on August 17 at the new Stade Jean Bouin in Paris. The men will play in the highly anticipated IRB Rugby World Cup in the Fall of 2015 in England, also on Universal Sports.
The USA will begin pool play against Ireland on August 1, before taking on Kazakhstan on August 5, and New Zealand on August 9. Calling the action for Universal Sports will be play-by-play announcer Bill Seward alongside analyst Brian Hightower, former USA Sevens captain.
Fans who do not normally receive Universal Sports Network as part of their television package will be able to watch the New Zealand vs. USA match during week-long free previews from TV providers DIRECTV, DISH, Verizon FiOS and CenturyLink Prism starting August 6.
