Washington Promises to be Another Tight Battle

We're just two weeks into the Rugby Washington Boys DI league, and already we've got some interesting developments.

The first development is that recently-promoted Rainier Highlanders, who won the D2 competition last year, now sit 2-0 after beating Kent 40-19.

Tight Games in Rugby Washington Openers

Liberty opened the Rugby Washington HS season with a 15-10 defeat of Budd Bay at Budd Bay.

For Liberty, it was a gratifying win, albeit one that came about eight months too late.

Liberty was 10-2 in Rugby Washington league and playoff competition, but those two losses - one in the regular season and one in the state final - came against Budd Bay.

Chuckanut U15s Dominate

The Chuckanut U15 boys team not only won the Washington State Games U15 Rugby 7s championship on Sunday, they clinched early and dominated the competition.

Chuckanut had the gold medal wrapped up well in advance of the final game, and coach Darin Hamm said that’s because of team unity.

Pittman Retires

Longtime USA prop Shawn Pittman has announced his retirement from the game of rugby effective immediately.

At just 26 years of age, Pittman has represented the United States on the international rugby stage for the better part of nine years, including the AIG Men’s Junior All-Americans in the 2007 and 2008 IRB Junior World Championships.

Pittman to Hold Camp at Old Club

USA prop Shawn Pittman is returning to the high school program that got him started in rugby to run a camp this summer.
 
Pittman first began playing rugby for the Chuckanut Bay club in northern Washington state, starring as a No. 8 and earning the nickname “Grizzly” for his wild hair and beard.
