WWU 7s Kicks Off College 7s Season
THe stage is set for one of the first college 7s tournaments of the season, with Western Washington University hosting the WWU 7s Sunday in Bellingham, Wash.
Nine teams will compete in the competition, which has a fairly simple format that guarantees all teams four games.
In Pool A University of Victoria, Oregon State, and WWU-2 will compete, with UVic certainly strong favorites.
In Pool B University of British Columbia - Okanagan, Western Washington, and Washington State University - Tri Cities will face off. This is much more of a pick 'em pool, with OBCO strong, but WSU-Tri Cities a school-supported (if small) program, and WWU certainly nicely-placed to challenge for the cup.
In Pool C, University of British Columbia, Gonzaga, and Washington State University play off. UBC is a strong favorite here, but will be pushed by an improving Gonzaga program and a WSU team that has tons of potential.
All of the teams will play the other two in their pools. Then the teams will be moved into new brackets, with a bracket for the 1st-place teams, a bracket for the 2nd-place teams, and a bracket for the 3rd-place teams.
Teams in those brackets will play each other in a new round-robin to determine the Cup, Plate, and Bowl.
Kickoff of the first game is 10am PT at WWU's rugby field on the Western Washington campus.
