West Coast 7s Returns
College rugby teams on the West Coast get on the field this week with the West Coast 7s in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
The WC 7s has undergone a bit of an organizational change with Andy Doukas taking a step back and Pete Smith stepping in.
Thirteen teams representing ten colleges will be in action. The Div 1 competition will have Cal Poly, Arizona, UC Santa Barbara, UCLA, and two teams from Cal—Cal Gold and Cal Blue.
It's likely that Cal will mix up their teams rather than select a more experienced team and a less experienced team. Head Coach Jack Clark said: "It will be good for the team to compete. We are at the stage in our trainings where some competition lessons will help our development."
That's another way of saying "here's your chance to show how good you are."
Cal will host the PAC Rugby 7s November 6-7.
The 2nd division at the West Coast 7s will include 2nd teams from Cal Poly and UCSB, plus teams from USC, CCAC, San Jose State, and Fresno State. A Cal Poly 3rd team might make an appearance, too.
