Utah's preseason tradition returns this upcoming weekend with the 2026 Puriri Memorial Invitational.
Held to honor the memory of Ra Puriri and his son, Michael, who, along with Michael's brother, Colin, have been instrumental in coaching and promoting high school rugby, the Puriri Invitational hosts some of the top rugby teams in the West.
Current GRR #1 school team Herriman, and current GRR #3 HS Club American Fork Cavemen will be there. East HS of Salt Lake City, Te Mana (formerly Snow Canyon/Tribal), Mountain View, and Brighton are all involved. Olympus also competes. Winners of Utah's Tier 3 in 2025, they are young but looking to build.
The high quality of the teams involved often attracts teams from out of the state, and this year is no different. Red Mountain out of Arizona and Hawai'i's Kahuku HS both will be competing.
