USA Happy with Vegas Pool
The USA men’s 7s team has a very favorable pool for the USA 7s in Las Vegas.
For years the Eagles have had to contend with very difficult pools in their home tournament, but that, in part, has been a function of poor performances in the Wellington 7s the week before.
But this year, the Eagles made the Cup Round in Wellington, and their performance was good enough to bump them to 8th in the HSBC Sevens World Series. And the reward is the easiest pool in the USA 7s, with the Eagles joined in Pool C by South Africa, Portugal, and Japan.
The toughest pool has to be Pool A, with New Zealand, Fiji, Wales, and Samoa in the group - all but Wales have won the USA 7s at some point.
Canada’s struggles have a ramification as the Wellington Shield winners join England, Kenya, and Argentina in an unforgiving Pool B. Pool D is a group of middling teams in Scotland, Australia, France, and Brazil. The Eagles will be hoping France can drop Scotland to the bottom eight and give the USA a shot at passing Scotland in the standings.
