Several all-ranked matchups turn our heads this week in Men's DII college rugby, with two at the top of the list.
In the Great Midwest we have #6 Marquette at #11 UW-Platteville. That's basically our Game of the Week and GRR will be there in person to see how it all shakes out. This is sort of a game for dominance in the GMW, but make no mistake, Whitewater isn't going anywhere and neither is Illinois State.
The other game is higher in the rankings with #5 University of Vermont, a team that is performing superbly after the tragic death of their coach early last year, at #4 Norwich, which has scored 60 points in their first two league games.
We would have liked to see how IUP matched up with Alderson Broaddus but A-B, despite being a varsity program, is struggling with numbers and has had to cancel.
is an interesting one because A-B has not lit up the league like you might expect a varsity team to do. But numbers have been a problem throughout the conference. The NEWCRC and Great Midwest have probably been the most successful in keeping numbers up, which is weird because the Northeast states were slower than other states to open things up, and the GMW covered multiple states with differently-paced paths to playing and being more open.
Maybe it was that slow path to openness that fueled the desire to get out there and play.
