The Midwest Boys championships kick off this weekend with a Championship bracket of eight teams

In one side of the bracket, St. Ignatius plays SLUH in the opening round, while Bishop Dwenger takes on a tough Neuqua Valley HS in the other game.

Ignatius remains unbeaten in domestic competition (they went 1-1 with their 1st side in France) and are coming off a hard-nosed 28-8 win over Xavier HS of New York. This game was close for quite some time but Ignatius was able to pull away.

It still seems that Ignatius is finding it’s best.

Dwenger and Neuqua have both had their good results. Neuqua lost by a wide margin to New Trier but turned around to win big over Taft last week. Dwenger’s defense is very good and they are coming off a 26-0 shutout of Pendleton.

Nicholas Tippman has been a big scorer for them.

In the other side of the bracket, St. Edward opens against Penn. Ed’s is coming off a very well-taken win over Detroit Catholic Central on the road.

“Overall it was a good performance but we aren’t satisfied,” said Ed’s Head Coach Greg Miranda. “The team morale is high and the lads are having fun, but they are focused on the [National] Championship. We did make a ton of mistakes and left a lot of scoring opportunities on the board. But our attack was fluid and dynamic and defense was largely rock solid.”

Pulaski out of Wisconsin (currently 3-0 in league play) takes on a Notre Dame de la Salette side that tied St. Edward earlier in the season.

All of those teams play a shortened game in the morning and then a shortened semifinal (or 5th-place semifinal) later in the afternoon on Saturday. Sunday sees the final placement games.

In addition, the Midwest Championships includes an open division, which features nine teams including some 2nd sides from teams above and some other teams from around the region.

There’s a JV bracket, with eight teams, and a Developmental bracket with six teams. La Salette will field four teams. Ignatius, despite this being prom weekend and the seniors are not playing, will field four teams. St. Edward also plays in four brackets.
