Tennessee at Florida Highlights SCRC Weekend
Three undefeated SCRC teams are in action this weekend, but really only one should be nervous.
Alabama sits at 4-0 in the SCRC West, and while Kentucky could upset the Tide, it doesn’t seem likely given that road wins are in seriously short supply in this conference and Kentucky is on the road.
If anyone can win on the road, it’s South Carolina. The Gamecocks are at 3-0 in the SCRC East and face off with 0-3 Auburn in Alabama.
So that leads us to Tennessee at Florida. While the Vols are ranked #17 and Florida is not in the Goff Rugby Report top 50, this could end up being un upset given that Florida, a creditable 2-2 in the SCRC West, hosts.
To avoid the road blues, Tennessee traveled to Gainesville the day before the Friday night game.
The Vols aren’t at full strength, said Coach Marty Bradley, “but the boys are playing fairly well. [We don’t have] any real stars in this team, but rather just a bunch of very committed, hard-working, and coachable kids. What they lack in a few areas they have more than made up for it with some great effort and determination.”
That can be the formula for success, but still this will be a tough one.
Bradley has known Florida Coach ken Simmons for years, and respects what he does.
“Ken will have his boys ready for sure, so we best be on our game to keep it interesting,” said Bradley. “They are certainly fighting for their season right now and we are in their sights.”
Tennessee has outscored opponents 200-11 in SCRC play, but Bradley said the team needs to run better support lines during multi-phase play. In addition, the Vols have been working hard on their kicking game.
A victory for Florida will put the Gators in excellent position to make the playoffs, but a loss won’t count them out, either.
