It’s going to be cold at the Montana Invitational this weekend but the rugby action should be pretty hot.

The tournament welcomes a HS Boys Elite, HS Girls Elite, HS Girls Premier, HS Boys Premier, and a U16 Boys Elite over the course of two days in Bozeman, MT.

The weather promises to be quite chilly but teams and fans will be able to use heating stations (large tent warmed up to help everyone stay comfortable) and the games themselves will be a of a high level.

The Girls Elite includes Kahuku out of Hawai’i, Majestics and Provo, both out of Utah, and local powers Yellowstone.
The Boys Elite has important ramifications for the Boys HS National Championships with Herriman, Sacramento Jesuit, Missoula, Kahuku, Highland, and Liberty.

Herriman and Sac Jesuit have already secured places in the National Championship single-school division. Missoula is among a group of teams under scrutiny for a final wild-card spot. Highland is making a push in Utah while Kahuku and Liberty (Washington) are the top teams in their state at the moment.

The Boys Premier bracket includes a Herriman 2nd side but is mostly 1st sides from Montana and Washington, with Santa Monica (Calif.) and Beaverton (Ore.) also in the mix.

“This is what everyone should do in rugby in this country,” said tournament Director and CWO of the Montana Institute Of Sport JD Stephenson. "You need to play different teams that challenge you.”

A strong team of referees under the watchful eye of Matt Lake will be part of the event, with six referees who have officiated D1A College matches taking the whistle.

Teams will play two matches on Saturday and then on Sunday will play playoff and placement games.

All games will be 44.5 minutes long.

For the Boys Elite, Missoula opens up the schedule with Sacramento Jesuit and then takes on Highland. Sac Jesuit then plays Highland at the end of Saturday. In Pool A, Herriman kicks off against Kahuku in the morning and then faces Liberty. Kahuku and Liberty then face off at 5PM.

For the girls, Majestics vs Kahuku kicks off the tournament, which will be a wild one.
