Rugby NJ 7s Latest

The third week of HS 7s in New Jersey is complete with Play Rugby 1 winning once again in the  Boys U19 division.

“The Highlanders ran a great tournament this week with over 18 teams and 200+ athletes playing in three Divisions,” said Pat Moroney, Rugby NJ’s 7s Director. “It was really fantastic that we have grown to 5 different clubs or schools hosting the 7’s Series this fall covering venues in the South and North of the State."

The series ends on Sunday Oct. 9, 2016 in Denville, NJ, hosted by Morris Rugby.

“There is much to play for and it is sure to be an exciting finale,” said Moroney.

In the boys U19 division Play Rugby 1 and CBA White squared off in the final, with Play Rugby winning and remaining atop the overall standings: Play Rugby 1 has 83 pts, St. Augustine 70, and CBA White 71.

The Girls U 19 Division the teams finished the Highlander Tournament in this order. Play Rugby 1, Morris Rugby 2 and Morris Rugby 1. Overall standings are currently Morris Rugby 2 with 79 points, Play Rugby 1 74 points and Morris Rugby 1 with 71 points.

“Both teams continue to improve. Morris Rugby 2 played their best rugby to date and really connected as a team," said Gene Caulfied, Head Coach of the Morris Girls.

The U 16 boys position saw some new competition over the last 2 weeks with Play Rugby  and Greenwich supporting  U 16 sides. Although Greenwich and Play Rugby finished 1st and 2nd in the Highlander tournament they will not be able to catch up on points to pull ahead of the other teams. Currently CBA white, St. Augustine and CBA blue round out the top three spots.
