The Men's DII playoffs loom and with as many as 12 conferences involved it's going to be a big chance to see who gets in.

Expect the conference champions, of course, to have a place, and we'll see some #2 teams from the strongest conferences—Great Midwest, NEWCRC, Southern—fight for a spot, too.

What will likely also happen is that there will be play-in games. NCR wants the best teams to be in the Round of 16 (which will run November 19-21 in Cherry Hill, NJ, Charleston, SC, Knoxville, Tenn., and St. Louis Mo.). That weekend will see the Round of 16 on the Friday and Quarterfinals on Sunday, and then Dec. 10-12 in Houston will be the semis and the final.

Who could be in those playoffs? Marquette, North Iowa, Wisconsin-Whitewater, Norwich, Coast Guard, UMass Lowell, Vermont, Memphis, Auburn, Furman, Principia, Pttsburg State, Adrian, Central Michigan, Thomas More, Virginia, Marist, US Merchant Marina Academy, and Bucknell.

Several others have a shot. We didn't mention a lot of Southern or MARC teams because there are so many who could also percolate up. Tri-State has their playoffs in a week and finish up a week after that, which will tell us plenty. Likely the Tri-State #1 will be asked to be in a play-in game the weekend of November 13. In the Gateway, Principia is by no means secure and UMS&T or Pitt State could cause them trouble.

Meanwhile, this week, here's what's at stake:

Marquette needs a good result tonight to consolidate in the GMW.

Norwich and Coast Guard battle for tops in NEWCRC Pool A, while UVM and UMass-Lowell do the same in Pool B in a clash of #10 vs #11.

Belmont Abbey needs Furman to beat or tie Charlotte in order to confirm a spot in the Southern semis. UNC-Wilmington vs Coastal Carolina and Citadel vs East Carolina will decide who joins UNC Chapel Hill in the semis from the Southern eastern division. ECU and UNC-W will be looking for wins there.

Loyola needs a bonus-point win to ensure a semifinal spot in the GMW, although a non-bonus win can work too. Winning is important, and holding UNI's 80-point-per-game offense in check is too.In the MARC, Bucknell seems to be in the driver's seat but if Villanova beats Drexel, watch out.
