Perry Baker Injury Update
MADRID, Spain—USA Rugby has released a statement on the injury Men's 7s star Perry Baker received on Sunday.
Baker was stretchered off during the USA's loss against Kenya after a tackle. He appeared to injure his leg, and indeed USA Rugby has confirmed that he has injured his lower leg. There has been speculation that he has broken a bone in his leg or dislocated his ankle, but that's essentially speculation at this point. (The Spanish Rugby Union said he had a fractured tibia.)
The statement said that "out of respect for athlete privacy, USA Rugby does not provide details regarding the exact scope and nature of player injuries."

Baker has to go through a COVID testing procedure before being flown back to the United States for a fuller assessment of his injury and whether he needs surgery.
Baker issued a statement, which he reiterated on social media Sunday night with a little help from Arnold Schwarzenegger.
“Thank you for all the support. Much appreciated from myself and my family,” said Baker.

Meanwhile, USA Head Coach Mike Friday also expressed optimism that Baker would return.
“As a pack, we will come together to do all we can to support Perry and bring him back on the pitch,” he said in the statement Adding to this when discussing the injury with Goff Rugby Report, Friday said: "He will no doubt have a tough road ahead but we all believe, at this moment, he has enough time to give himself the opportunity to compete for Olympic selection and the entire squad and management will do all we can to get him back on the pitch."
