Penn State, Norwich to Meet in Women DI Final
Quinnipiac showed plenty of grit against the Penn State Nittany Lions, but two first-half yellow cards against the Bobcats and two tries by PSU wing Tess Feury led to a 13-5 halftime lead for the eight-time National Champions and ultimately a 35-12 victory.
USA Rugby All-American Natalie Kosko narrowed Penn State’s lead to just a single point after the Quinnipiac flanker scored a converted try less than ten minutes into the second half. But that would be it for the Bobcats, as Penn State scored four second-half tries, including two more from Feury, to slam the door on Quinnipiac.
Meanwhile, seven different Norwich Cadets scored tries, and wing Alanna Girardin finished with 17 total points in the team’s 52-10 rout of Indiana. Second-half tries from Jordyn Doyle and standout No. 8 Allison Hale highlighted the afternoon for Indiana, but Norwich’s athleticism and experience were far too much for the Redstorm to overcome.
The victories by Norwich and Penn State set up a rematch of a Sept. 6 game that went the way of Penn State 43-27.
Indiana and Quinnipiac will battle for third place Dec. 7 at 10 a.m. ET and the USA Rugby Women’s DI Fall Championship Final hosted by ACRA between the Cadets and Nittany Lions is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. ET. Both matches will be aired live from Palm Coast, Florida and can be seen at USA Rugby TV.
