Norwich University Teams on Tour With Irish Rugby Tours

The Norwich men and women about to board their flight.

Norwich University is on tour in Ireland with their men's team and their women's team.

"I have taken Norwich on seven tours of Ireland over the years," said Men's Head Coach Bob Weggler. "Every time we have used Irish Rugby Tours. George does such a great job, and we really get the experience of rugby being a global sport."

George would be Irish Rugby Tours head guy George Hook.

Both teams will be playing games while there also will be coaching experiences and cultural activities, too.

Weggler said the team will certainly go to Trinity to work with their Head Coach, Tony Smeeth—"I have a lot of time for Tony," said Weggler.

Norwich played their first game against Shannon. The Cadets opened the scoring with a Kris Wayton penalty kick. But Shannon stormed back to take the lead. The Cadets had moments where they probably should have scored but couldn't quite convert.

While Norwich won the majority of scrums and did well in the lineouts, and also forced turnovers in the rucks.

But Shannon's skill level allowed them to score from long range and their kicking game was superior.

"They were excellent at finishing off tries," Weggler told GRR. Finaly score, Shannon RFC 50 Norwich 3.

At the post-match function, selected inside center Kris Wayton as player of the game from Norwich. They also presented gifts to Weggler and Norwich captain Brady Kline.

The women followed that up with a game, which they lost.

"Both teams are really learning a lot about rugby culture and Irish culture," Weggler said. "We are off to the Cliffs of Moher and Bunratty Castle next."
