We didn't unleash a preseason ranking because reasons and so we're straight into this week after a few results around the division.
It was a somewhat humbling week for the two finalists from last fall, as St. Bonaventure and Queens lost convincingly to Navy and Army, respectively. Is that just a really tough game against a group of players who have just come out of early-semester fitness training? Maybe.
Certainly we expect those teams to keep improving. And one might also say that it's a little harsh to penalize teams who are just trying to play tougher opposition. And that is a good debate to have. We like to reward strength of schedule, we also reward winning. Sometimes the loss to a tougher opponent can be more value than a win over a less-tough opponent. But the loss has to be close.
We are making a little bit of a guess here with UCLA and we're leaving some space for the Bruins to move up or down once games begin. Indiana Tech's close loss to Notre Dame is taken with a grain of salt, because this was a scrimmage with fairly open subs. We could easily see major changes coming up.
