We took a week off from the Men's College rankings as last week everything kind of went as expected and we had no changes.
But this week, what with 18 teams in action we have much, much more data.
Our biggest problem right now is what to do about the teams that aren't playing. In the end we decided to remove Navy from the rankings, not because they have done anything wrong, but more because they played one game, lost 39-0, and that game was in October. We basically were waiting for more college teams to get in on the action, and once that happened, somebody has to win. So we ended up expanding the rankings to 20 teams, dropping Grand Canyon to #20, and dropping Navy out until they play again.
Lindenwood remains at #1 and Life at #2, but there are changes after that. Given that Cal and Saint Mary's entered competition and beat the two teams tied at #3 it's logical we move the Bears and the Gaels up past BYU and Central Washington. Right now we put Saint Mary's at #3 over Cal simply because of the margin of victory over what we see as equal opponents.
Why does Army move down even though the Black Knights won? Because a) Cal and Saint Mary's bump everyone down two spots; b) Arkansas State's ten-point loss to Life was, we think, more impressive than Army's 67-0 win over Norwich; and c) we didn't feel Arizona should be moved down after two idle weekends.
St. Bonaventure and Notre Dame College enter the rankings after playing their first games. Bowling Green and IUPUI join, too. Now, a week ago had we submitted our rankings we could have had those two in there, with IUPUI ahead of Bowling Green because IUPUI beat the Falcons. But, this week BGSU won the rematch and by more than the first result, so Bowling Green edges ahead of IUPUI.
