Men DI College Rankings Week 16

In the latest Goff Rugby Report Men's DI College Rankings, there is some notable movement. Life remains at #1 after beating two very strong ranked teams. But we might well see a new #1 after this weekend, because #2 BYU plays #3 St. Mary's. The winner could very well move up to the top spot.

Cal had trouble putting away UCLA, but we've rewarded UCLA for that rather than penalized Cal. This in part because a) UCLA's loss to Utah by 38 was in part due to injures, and b) watching the game film Cal didn't play poorly so much as UCLA defended very well.

Meanwhile, Arkansas State lost to Davenport, moving the Red Wolves down. The result also prompted us to move Davenport above Lindenwood. You will remember that Davenport edged Lindenwood 7-3 last fall. We decided to wait for corroboration of that result, saw it this weekend, and so the Panthers are at #7.

Arizona State moves up 15 spots after an impressive win over Arizona. UCLA moves up 23 spots.Texas A&M keeps winning and so they jump up eight places.

Coming in to the Top 50 are UC-Davis, who have beaten all the top teams in the Pac West, Long Beach State, who beat one of their chief rivals in the Gold Coast, and Oregon, who beat ranked Washington, who had previously beaten ranked Western Washington. All three of those teams are very close in quality. 

Watch out also for Arkansas, Central Florida, and Middle Tennessee State (who dropped from 50 to being unranked). We think all of those teams have the potential to move into the rankings as they have big games this weekend.
