Mar Del Plata 7s Soon
Mar Del Plata 7s Soon
USA Falcons player Derek Lipscomb, who plays with Old Blue and the Northeast Olympic Development Academy, works with the weights while his team prepares for the Mar Del Plata 7s this coming weekend in Argentina.
Lipscomb is part of a developing USA Facons team made up of players hoping to break into the USA's World Series team, or players who have been capped by the USA in 7s, but have not been getting a lot of minutes.
Lipscomb was a football player at Columbia and while there started playing rugby with Old Blue. He is a rarity on the Falcons team as he doesn't have college or age-grade rugby experience. Pat Blair was a standout for the Tacoma Nomads U19 team and Central Washington before joining the USA team. Colton Cariaga was a Life University All American and played age-grade rugby in North Carolina. Will Holder played HS rugby for East Palo Alto, and was an All American for Army, as was Ben Leatigaga. Zach Pangelinan did not play age-grade rugby, but was a USA prospect before he was 20 years old. Pila Taufa played rugby in Hawai'i as a high-schooler and was also capped in rugby league. Mike Te'o was a top player for the USA U20s. Glen Thommes was a 7s All American for Delaware. Stephen Tomasin was capped in 7s while playing for San Diego State. Jack Tracy was a USA U19 player. And Chris Turori was a club standout before he also made the All Americans while attending Palomar Junior College.
So it's a team that is heavily influenced by the All American progrm and college and high school teams.
The USA Falcons is in Pool B with Argentina, Tucuman, and Del Sur.
In Pool A are Canada, Uruguay, Pladar Litoral, and Mar Del Plata.
