More close games in the ARC.
The Atlantic Rugby Conference has to be the most competitive conference in American college rugby. Saturday saw two more games decided by a try or less.
Walsh held off Wheeling in Ohio 16-13 to stay unbeaten. Wheeling has lost all three of their conference games, and all three by a try or less.
And also on the slate was Belmont Abbey vs Kutztown. The Crusaders won that one 19-15.
For Walsh vs Wheeling, the game was back and forth all the way through. Walsh opened the scoring with a penalty from scrumhalf Elliot McKinney. Takudzwa Musingwini answered later in the first half, and it seemed like the teams would change ends with that score.
But with time winding down Walsh got close and showed great patience in working the ball across the line for a 10-3 lead.
In the second half Wheeling tapped on a penalty and then spun it wide to score on the wing. Musingwini slotted the difficult conversion and it was tied again. McKinney and Musingwini traded penalties and it was 13-13 with time ticking away.
In Wheeling's half, the Cardinals got a scrum, and were penalized for not driving square. McKinney lined up the kick and won it.
