Grand Valley Leads Great Lakes Power Surge
Grand Valley State moved to 6-0 after beating Ferris State 46-3 as the top teams in the Great Lakes Conference all won fairly comfortably.
Bethel defeated Saginaw Valley State 68-5 to improve to 5-1, and Central Michigan defeated Calvin College 65-5.
In the GVSU-Ferris State game, Ferris State loosehead prop David Reed was a disruptive force for his team, causing GVSU some issues on defense and winning many of the contact situations. But he's only one man, and Grand Valley put in a good team performance.
Sean Mullett moved the ball smartly and was able to find Austin Cochrane who continued his offensive assault with four tries on the day. He gained abut 250 meters on the day, and on one occasion blasted through for a 95-meter breakaway.
In that play, center Max Craun-Selka poached a ball after Ferris State threatened, and Cochrane burst onto a crashball and kept going.
Back rower Cam McLoughlin was his usual physical self, while flanker Austin Dewey was excellent in clearing out at the breakdowns and disrupting quick ball for Ferris State.
Meanwhile, Central Michigan improved to 4-2 with a big victory over Calvin, led once again by a strong performance in the centers.
