Gonzaga hosted their Gonzaga Classic over the weekend, with the host team taking the Boys Varsity bracket, while Doylestown impressed in the Girls Varsity bracket and took the final.
Gonzaga College HS inducted their 2014-2016 teams, which won three state National Championships, into the Gonzaga Athletic Hall of Fame, so there were plenty of alumni watching the games.
Fort Hunt had a solid showing, beating Gonzaga Black and Clayton to make the semifinals. Meanwhile, this is another tournament for the South Carolina Barbarians, a team that plays in various events around the country and has exposed several talented players to strong opposition.
The Barbarians did lose to Gonzaga's 1st side, their Purple side, but rebounded with an impressive 45-0 shutout of Loyola Blakefield.
All of that set up the semifinals on Day 2. Gonzaga recorded their third-straight shutout with a 38-0 win over Golden Eagle out of Atlanta. The other semifinal was a back-and-forth game and Fort Hunt finally won in dramatic fashion with a last-second penalty goal. Fort Hunt 15 SC Barbarians 14.
