We've got well over 100 games on the boys HS rugby schedule this week.
We probably have missed some because, as we said before, teams and leagues use different apps and tracking methods. So if we missed you, let us know!
Wisconsin has kicked off and they have a nice full slate of games. Green Bay remains a top contender in that state and Pulaski showed well at Nash Bash. We saw Marquette at the SLUH All-Catholic and despite the fact they had hardly practiced, they impressed.
Northshore Legion might be a dark horse this year.
Marquette opened this week vs Elkhorn and were led by No. 8 Jude Ballinger in a 38-21 win. Prop Dillon Gallagher was a monster.
Looking ahead, we've got the Gonzaga Classic, which should be a lot of fun. GRR will be there on Sunday.
Gonzaga Classic Provides Multiple Rankings Matchups
St. Ignatius and St. Edward play their huge rivalry game Saturday night. Friday night Moeller vs St. Xavier is another in-Ohio rivalry game. Eastside vs Rainier in Washington, St. Joe's vs Gregory the Great in PA are also big.
St. Joe's has looked very good so far, but Coach Brian McCloskey kind of poo-poo'd any hype pointing out that his team's massive win over Berks was helped by big rain during the week—St. Joe's was able to practice inside; the weather certainly hurt Berks's prep. "We'll find out how good we are against Greg's this weekend," he added.
He did, however, add that "we are really balanced. Every week it's a decision on who plays. We bring guys in and the standard is maintained or they are elevating our play. We are not getting complacent."
Mike Ross is a hustling No. 8, Will Perretta has been dynamic at scruhmalf, Alex Rode is a dangerous wing, and Max Quintus has been in good form also.
