As the new 15-a-side season comes upon us, don't forget the tackle height.

While World Rugby's tackle height adjustment was rolled out in the USA in 2024-25, some jurisdictions didn't really embrace it.

The threshold for a high tackle is the bottom of the sternum.

Tacklers must strike the ballcarrier and wrap below the center of the ribcage (which is the sternum). If a ballcarrier lowers down and the tackler is at the level of the sternum of an upright player, then that tackle is legal.

Even if two tacklers come in, the second tackler must be below sternum height.

Guidelines have been sent and reiterated to referees around the country, and players should be read.
