In the end we don't have a ton of changes in this week's D1A Rankings because most results happened as expected.
We have #5 Lindenwood beating #8 Arkansas State 45-25 ... that's pretty much what you'd expect. San Diego beat Long Beach State, which was maybe a bit closer than expected. Cal won twice.
But ... but ... Arizona was very close to Cal and had a chance to win that game. But ... but ... BYU beat UCLA in LA. But ... but ... CSULB lost to USD by only eight points.
If you look at Arizona's results, it's interesting:
45-0 over Colorado
47-22 over Cal Poly
58-14 over Arizona State
21-34 vs Lindenwood
15-68 vs Saint Mary's
66-40 over St. Thomas
51-57 vs Cal
All of those results fit a profile, except the Saint Mary's loss. That is the anomaly. Everything else says Arizona is highly competitive with the top teams and stronger than the middle-tier ranked teams. So, either Saint Mary's is unstoppable (which is possible), or Arizona is really good and had one bad weekend.
Santa Clara moves up after a very good win over UCSC.
San Diego, Santa Clara Make Moves in California Conference
CSULB's close loss to San Diego is a good reminder that they have been producing results almost all season:
They lost close to UCLA but were beaten fairly comprehensively by Saint Mary's and Cal Poly. They beat UCSB and Sacramento State and lost close to San Diego. They deserve to be raised a little bit.
Next up? Lindenwood vs Mary Washington, Cal vs BYU, GCU v Utah. Unfortunately, Navy vs Mount St. Mary's has had to be called off, but we are still entering a torrid time in D1A.
