Here's the latest on College 7s Tournaments around the country.
Purdue defeated Iowa 31-28 an exciting Cup Final in the 2nd tournament of the Big Ten 7s Series. Wisconsin, which won the initial tournament over Ohio State, took 3rd with a 47-0 win over Michigan State. Illinois took 5th.
Kutztown defeated hosts Colgate in the 2nd Empire 7s, beating Colgate 29-14 in the final.
St. Bonaventure hosted their own tournament in New York state and slammed West Virginia 55-7 in the final. Phil Jackling scored three in that final.
In the second round of the Southeastern Rugby Conference 7s, Kentucky pulled off something of an upset, taking the Cup. It wasn't easy going for UK, as they went 1-1 in Pool D, as did the other two teams. Kentucky and Tennessee prevailed over Auburn thanks to points difference and went on to the quarters. There Kentucky defeated Georgia 31-7, and then beat Tennessee 27-5, after having lost to the Vols 26-14 earlier in the day. Alabama, meanwhile, defeated Ole Miss in the quarters and Mississippi State in the semis to make the final, which Kentucky won 31-19.
What of South Carolina, the previous tournament winners? The Gamecocks were beaten by Tennessee in the quarters and lost to Georgia in the Plate Semis.
And AIC won the Armory 7s, which is a direct qualifier for the the USA Rugby Nationals. AIC beat a tough Northeast team in the semis 41-7, and took down NEC in the final 26-17.
