Clemson Over Maryland

Clemson University moved to 3-0 in the Atlantic Coast Rugby League with a workmanlike 30-8 defeat of #34 Maryland Friday evening.

The Terps battled through the entire game, but the #9 Tigers had the run of play in terms of territory and possession. What hurt Clemson was penalties, especially at the breakdown, which managed to interrupt their multi-phase sequences. Maryland battled at the breakdown and did a good job of disrupting the Clemson flow, as well.

Clemson will play Sunday as well in this trip to the Maryland/Virginia area, and their depth has already been tested as several starters could not make the trip.

“I am proud of our athletes, many of whom have a heavy course load and we’re in the middle pot mid-terms. We had a number of freshmen playing and guys playing out of position,” said Clemson Head Coach Steve Lynch. “This game gave our younger players a chance to prove themselves against a very good Maryland team.”

Maryland drops to 2-2. Clemson faces 1-0-1 Virginia on Sunday.
