Winter break is here for the North Carolina single-school league and already the top teams are showing themselves.
In the first two weekends this resulted in every single game achieving the maximum 35-point winning margin (any game that is more than that is listed with the 35-point margin instead).
Of those seven games, four were shutouts with South Charlotte, Capitals, and Clayton all managing to get a try over in a losing cause.
So as we entered Week 3 it was clear that Charlotte Catholic, Huskies Rugby, and Marvin Ridge. South Meck has a habit of coming on strong late in the season but might be in a rebuild stage—they might be in a battle for a top four spot.

But the big game of note was this past weekend when Charlotte Catholic (2-0) took on Marvin Ridge (2-0), and Catholic took the match 29-3.
This was a game in which many players knew each other—the Charlotte Cardinals red squad (their 1st team) featured 13 players over the two teams.
That didn’t take away from the physicality of the matchup; it probably added to it.
“From our standpoint, we were physical in the B channel,” said Charlotte Catholic Head Coach Jason Zehmke. “We needed to exert some dominance because they are very good in the backline and they have weapons in the scrum. So we had to meet them physically off our rush defense.”
