Texas crowned their Boys HS champions this past weekend, with The Woodlands and Celina taking the honors.

The Woodlands defeated Barbarians 48-13 to win the D1 Club championship. Reid Scharffenorth scored three tries in the championship match, while Trace Snellman scored two tries and converted four to log 18 points in total.

Beckett Barefoot, Gavin Miranda, and Elijah Capiro also touched down in an impressive performance in which they held the Barbarians to one try.

Meanwhile Celina defeated St. Thomas in a close one 33-29 to win the School championship.

Celina Rugby Club Claims Texas State Championship in Thrilling 33–29 Victory Over St. Thomas

It was a tough game for both.

Much of the game was played deep in CRC territory, with St. Thomas applying relentless pressure and pushing the pace offensively. However, Celina’s defense rose to the occasion time and again, stymying enough St. Thomas scoring oppotunities to pull out the win.

Time after time, St. Thomas threatened to break through, only to be denied by Celina’s disciplined and physical defensive stands. The ability to hold firm under pressure became the defining story of the match.

Despite spending much of the night on defense, Celina capitalized on key opportunities, converting crucial possessions into points and maintaining just enough of an edge to outlast a determined St. Thomas side.

With the 33–29 victory, Celina Rugby Club cements its place as one of the top programs in Texas, not only winning the championship, but finishing with an undefeated season.

Lincol Kobus, Marshall Hess, Hacob Brown, Karter Lorick, and Ruan Minaar all scored tries for Celina, with Minarr converting four.

This signaled a bit of a changing of the guard in Texas, with Celina getting their first school championship.
