Well we have a new #1.

This was a tough call because, at least this week, Herriman didn't have a matchup that screamed "send us to #1!" Our other options were St. Ignatius, who won a game GRR watched and we came away thinking they needed something more; and St. Francis, who were dynamic and thrilling, but have also lost a couple of games this season.

We have no doubt that if St. Francis played at the HS National Tournament (which they won't because their school season ends in March and the players no move to club teams or other sports), they would do quite well.

In the end, the way we feel about it is that the top 14 are all quite close.

Further down the rankings, Dallas Jesuit gets a much-deserved extra look. A quick look at the Rangers' schedule is that they should have played 10 games. However, two of those games have been called off. They beat Jesuit New Orleans (who moves back into the rankings this week), HEB, FFA, and Allen. But the thing to look at is the losses.

Four losses, all to ranked teams, and three of them by a total of nine points. Yes they lost by a larger margin to Celina, but those close losses say a lot.

Coming up this week:

Ignatius at Gonzaga
Herriman hosting Brighton
Greenwich vs Xavier
La Salette vs Kingfishers
St. Thomas at Strake Jesuit
St. Edward vs Moeller
Dwenger at Penn (who moved into the Top 50 this week)
